La loza - The dishes

Open Studios - Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A) - 2024

Since I was a child, I have watched my grandmother always keep a napkin in her hands and unconsciously shape it into various forms. Then she tucks it into the sleeve of her dress and continues with her chores.
Photographing her daily routines as a housewife for more than ten years has been a source of inspiration. The kitchen is the most intimate place, where the whirl of her thoughts reveals itself. Her feelings and emotions are deposited in the cups, in the plates, in the cutlery — in the act of drinking coffee, of molding a napkin by caressing it, of washing the dishes.
This work is a tribute to my grandmother Isabel, who, with her particular sensitivity, transforms her domestic tasks into an overflow of beauty and integrity. Passing through her gestures — leaving the imprint of her most intimate objects on the napkins and drawing attention to the sink to reveal the channel of her voice — becomes the unfolding of an endless work.
